As a cichlid keeper, planning for new fish is always exciting. About the only thing more exciting to me is setting up a new tank or re-doing an existing one. I have posted over the past few months about wanting some new fish and my various plans for my fish room. In fact, I had hoped to have this all done by now, but life got in the way.
With the Bluegrass Bash in June quickly approaching, I have purposely decided to wait until after the event before ordering anything new. There will be many species available at the Bash, so I’ve decided to see what I come across before I order anything. In fact, I expect to bring back at least a couple of species, hopefully a couple that I have never worked with before.
In the meantime, I have a short list of species that I hope to acquire after the convention. I don’t expect anyone at the Bash to have these for sale.
- Telmatochromis brachygnathus
- Neolamprologus savoryi
- Telmatochromis dhonti
Over the past few months, I have had some tanks open up. I have two new tanks sitting empty and idle right now, a 45g and a 34g. Both are in the process of cycling.
I also plan to move some fish around, which will give me more flexibility. Moving some fish will free up at least two additional tanks – a 45g and a 20g long. I am also sitting on some juvenile Amatitlania nanolutea, which I may unload soon. That would open up another tank.
I also hope to have a new custom 39g tank in the near future, but it won’t be available until probably the end of the year, much too late to address my current wants/needs.
