Another Amatitlania nanolutea pairing?

Two  Amatitlania nanolutea females in 40g breeder planted tank.

My established breeding pair of Amatitlania nanolutea have apparently taken a break from spawning. For almost a year, I was getting fry about every eight weeks. The last brood was the first week of June…over 90 days ago.

Also for the past year, I have been keeping another male in a 20g long with two females. He has never shown any interest in either of the females. So, last week I moved him to my planted tank (40g breeder), which houses three other females.

I couldn’t get a photo of the male in the planted tank because he hides under a rock outcropping.  The female in the photo above and at top (center) is the alpha female in the tank, and she’s not yet a big fan of this new male that just entered her world. She is gorgeous and prettier than the female of my breeding pair.

I am hopeful that he gravitates toward her and she’s receptive. Though he’s already been in the tank for a week, he’s clearly not comfortable. He’s about her size, yet he hasn’t established himself. He will in time.

If not with her, perhaps he will pair up with one of the other two females. Stay tuned.
