What water conditioner do I use?

If you read the previous post, I discussed a popular myth about water conditioner usage. At the end of that post, I also said I would share what brand of water conditioner I use.

There are numerous water conditioners available to hobbyists, and I have used many of them, including those shown above.

So, what do I use now? AquaLife Complete.

How does it differ from other aquarium water conditioners?

  • No toxicity
  • No drop in dissolved oxygen or pH
  • Removes heavy metals (other popular conditioners do not)
  • Removes more ammonia
  • Removes more chlorine (Most water conditioners remove only .06-.07ppm chlorine per dose. AquaLife Complete removes 3.2ppm per dose.)
  • Does not have a foul smell
  • Locally refillable and discounted (through stores that participate)

Want to know more about the product? Read the datasheet (this is a link to a PDF).

Where can you get it? Online from AquaLife, or you LFS may carry it.

I switched to this water conditioner several years ago because a friend of mine, who has been in the aquarium business for nearly 40 years, uses it on all his tanks and recommended it. I am on municipal water and have never had any issue with the product. I get it from my LFS, and they participate in the refill program.
