Update on new planted tank

Back in July, I posted about setting up a new planted tank. I am notoriously bad with plants but decided to give them another try. This time, I received some help.

The fine folks at SevenPorts got wind of my desire to set up a planted tank and offered up a case of AquaLife Andisol Japanese volcanic substrate and an AquaLife Ultra S90 36″ LED strip light.

I already added several bags of the substrate, which you can see in the photo at the top. The S90 LED light is also already on the tank as well.

Next up are the plants. I purchased a mix of background and foreground plants to get started. The plants came from Marcus Fish Tanks, which I have heard a lot of great things about. The plants just arrived, and I am quarantining them in a 10g with Alum to kill any unwanted pests (i.e., snails) that hitched a ride.

Below is what I ordered:

  • Dwarf Sagittaria Subulata x5
  • Anubias Barteri Pot ×4
  • Amazon Sword Echinodorus Bleheri ×2
  • Java Fern Microsorum Pteropus ×3

I also have some spider wood I will be adding. What fish will this tank house? I have some ideas on that but will share it later. There will be at least one species of cichlid. If you follow the blog, you can probably guess what that is.
