We’re just about one month away from the 2025 edition of the Ohio Cichlid Association’s Extravaganza. I have posted about this event many times.

When I started the The Cichlid Stage, I gave a lot of thought to the type of content I wanted the site to include. I determined that interviews with anyone associated with cichlids were a must. As such, I have been fortunate to communicate and make friends with business owners, scientists, breeders, and hobbyists, just like me. Occasionally, I have the privilege of interviewing some of the fantastic individuals who bring you great events like the annual American Cichlid Association convention and Ohio Cichlid Association’s (OCA) Extravaganza. If you’ve attended the latter, then you should recognize today’s interviewee.

The annual Ohio Cichlid Association Extravaganza is fast approaching – November 18-20. If you’ve never attended this wonderful event, you should consider doing so. Held every year the week before Thanksgiving, it is an opportunity to see some great presentations by world renown cichlid keepers. Furthermore, there are always some great fish there for both the show and the auction. There are also plenty of great vendors selling everything from fish to fish food to ceramic caves.
Make your plans now to spend an eventful weekend in beautiful northern Ohio, meet some fellow fish keepers, learn about cichlids, and just generally have a good time.

Ever been to the Ohio Cichlid Association’s (OCA) annual Extravaganza? Ever heard of it? If you answered no to either of those questions, you’re missing out. Held every November just before Thanksgiving near Cleveland, Ohio, it is a fantastic cichlid event, on par with the annual American Cichlid Association (ACA) convention. If you have attended an Extravaganza, then you have to know Don Danko.
Day two (Saturday) of the Extravaganza was outstanding….well, at least for me.
The day began with several talks – Hans George Evers, Oliver Lucanus (his 2nd talk of the event), and Ad Konings, I didn’t attend Evers’ talk but I did Lucanus’ and Konings’. Both are excellent speakers and their presentations were very informative. Below are the talk titles:

The OCA 25th has started and it is quite the event. Lots of cichlidophiles, lots of fish, lots of products, and not enough time.
If you attend the Ohio Cichlid Association (OCA) Extravaganza in less than three weeks, look for me. The first three people who come up to me, introduce themselves, AND tell me they read the blog will receive a gift. On Saturday, I’ll be wearing a Cichlid Stage t-shirt (like the one below), so I shouldn’t be hard to spot.
