New fish – A. compressiceps and N. brevis!

It’s been a while since I purchased new fish. I had my heart set on returning from the Bluegrass Bash in June (2026) with some species I have never kept. That was plan A, but it did not come to fruition.

Because I returned home empty-handed, I went to plan B: ordering fish online. Unfortunately, none of my online resources had everything I wanted, so I had to go with two different vendors. That was very unfortunate because I had to pay two shipping costs. In total, the shipping was $115….for 14 fish. Do the math on that.

Nonetheless, I did get two species I have never kept – Altolamprologus compressiceps “Kitoti” (black), Altolamprologus compressiceps “Kagunga” (redfin), and Neolamprologus brevis “Katabe.” I got four of each compressiceps (Kitoti and Kagunga). You can see all eight in the video above. They’re all about 2″ in length at the moment and settling in to a 45g tank. That size tank might seem small but it’s a custom tank with the same footprint as a standard 75g. It’s just shallower at 12″.

The six N. brevis are in a 34g seen in the video below. It’s also a custom tank with the same footprint as a 40g breeder, but the same depth as the 45g (12″). These little guys and gals are about 1″ in length at present.

In addition to all of the above, I have 10 Psammochromis schubotzi fry coming soon, but not sure when they’ll ship. I am excited about these because they’re a beautiful little haplochromine and my first Lake Edward species. They will also be in a 45g that is identical to the compressiceps tank.
