I have posted numerous times about tools all fish keepers should consider having on hand. In fact, in 2021 I posted about what could be one of the most important – fans, specifically floor fans.
As I stated in that post, it’s not if but when you’re going to have a water spill that will soak carpet, baseboards, or under furniture that you can’t fully dry with towels, vacuums, etc. Often times, a floor fan can be the one tool that prevents mold, especially if you live in a humid location.
Obviously, if you keep multiple tanks, the probability of experiencing a water spill is higher than if you keep a single tank. I have as many as 10-11 tanks going at any one time and I have had numerous water spills. I also know I will have more in the future.
I don’t regularly endorse non-aquarium products here but I am going to with this post. I have five floor fans of various sizes. I have small ones that fit inside tank stands and larger ones to cover larger, open areas.
With respect to the larger ones, for affordability, flexibility, and simplicity, I like the B-Air Firtana 20″. It is lightweight, has a 5′ cord, and has three speeds. But the most important feature for me is that it rotates 360 degrees. This latter feature gives it real advantage because I can angle it exactly how I want without having to prop it up or find some other way to aim it exactly where I want. This really comes in handy when I need multiple fans to cross cover areas.
On high speed, this fan moves some air. Another advantage is that it sits low to the ground, so just a slight tilt downward will have it blowing right where needed. In addition, having full rotation allows me to set it right on top any saturated carpet spots to focus the air precisely. It can aim straight down.
