A great place to find information on cichlids, when you feel like you’ve exhausted all other resources, is some of the online fish forums. If you do a Web search and all you seem to get are links to fish forums, don’t ignore them. Go ahead and click on the posts. Often you don’t have to be a member to access the threads.
Read the whole thread of the post. Even if the thread is multiple pages and you enter on, say page 4, go ahead and back up a page or two. I often find links to good stuff buried in these forum threads.
Just the other day I was looking for some information on a particular species of mud dwelling cichlid. I was finding very little substantive information about it. However, I found an old post about the species on a popular fish forum. I mined the threads and found a post by an online seller of cichlids, who clearly knew about the fish. I reached out to him to inquire about the species and whether he carries it or knows where I can find it. He responded with some good information that I would never have gotten had I not followed the threads of that post.
