Because I am constantly searching online for information about cichlids, I regularly encounter resources that are new to me. Though not specific to cichlids, the website For Aquarist does host cichlid content.
The site is Czechoslovakian but offers English translation. Since the site’s content is written in Czech (and maybe German) and translated on the fly, expect some readability hiccups. Nonetheless, I found the English content to be palatible. I also found that it contains some good information, albeit mostly EU focused.
It contains links to articles, photos, and includes a calendar of events. It also sells products, including livestock. In fact, they sell livestock in a similar fashion to Ebay (third party sellers), though without public bidding. You can negotiate pricing, however. Since the livestock sellers are European, keep that in mind if ordering. Pricing is in Koruna (Czech currency). I have no idea if the sellers will ship to the US or even outside of Czechoslovakia.
How did I find the site? I receive Google Scholar alerts via email on a variety of subjects. An article titled “The phenomenon of Apistogramma–Part 1: From selection in stores to the home biotope” appeared in my alerts. As the title states, it’s part of a series. I read this first article on Apistogramma and found the information to be basic but accurate. The article does contain references to some solid material, which is usually a good indicator of a resource’s validity.
