Because I have become so enamored with the custom ~34g I ordered in August 2025, I decided to get another one. I ordered it this week from Glasscages. You can read more about that tank here.

It currently houses six Neolamprologus brevis “Katabe” and a few danios. It is a nice size tank for many of the species I like. With the same footprint as a 40g breeder, finding a stand for it is easy. However, because the tank is framed with a center brace, there is no commercial-of-the-shelf top for it. For the current 34g, I am using a standard Aqueon glass versa top for a 40g breeder. It simply sits on the entire top of the tank. It isn’t ideal because it slides a little when I open it
Since I ordered the new tank, I decided to go ahead and get some polycarbonate to cover each side of the top frame. The dimensions of each opening in the frame are 16 3/4″ x 16 1/2″. In order to have enough polycarbonate to create four tops (two for the current tank and two for the tank being built), I bought a 36″ x 48″ sheet. It’s only about 1/16″ thick, and I got it at Lowes for just over $100.
I cut the pieces yesterday and drilled finger holes in two of them for the existing tank. I’ll drill the holes in the two tops for the new tank later when I get it. The current build time for the new tank is 10-12 weeks.
I haven’t decided whether to add the new tank to the existing tanks and get new fish, or move fish from one of the 20g long tanks and take that one down.
