For the shell dweller folks, there is a great new tank on the market. Called the Miotke, after award winning aquascaper Jeff Miotke, it is a super clear, rimless glass aquarium. Though designed for aquascaping, it has a great foot print for many of the shell dwelling cichlids available.
Manufactured by Hydra Aquatics, this tank continues a long line of glass aquariums by this company that are favored by hobbyists around the world. Made with low-iron Starphire glass, the dimensions are roughly 36′ x 24′ x 16″ with a 57g volume. It is a really nice size with a great footprint for most Tanganyikan lamprologine cichlids. It’s small enough to go species only but also large enough for a community tank.
There may be other retailers out there who have this tank because there are several retailers who carry Hydra Aquatics aquariums. However, my go to place online is SevenPorts and this tank is here.
